How Non-Pop Lids Reduce Road Noise & Prevent Unauthorized Access 10/2014
Every city in every state has valve box lids. Frequently, they are the heavy, cast iron lids that you see in the street or drive over in your car. In fact, you have probably heard them clanging around as cars pass over them. Conventional valve box lids made of cast iron are very heavy duty but are also loud, which results in a lot of noise complaints from those just passing by and, especially, from residents that live nearby. And, in addition to cast iron valve box lids making a lot of noise, they can also be popped or rolled completely out of place and this creates an opportunity for injury and unauthorized access. One way to avoid these problems is to make a change from conventional cast iron valve box lids to non-pop lids made from high-impact Fiberglass reinforced Nylon and Dead-Bang™ Rubber.
Non-pop lids made of high-impact Fiberglass reinforced Nylon and Dead-Bang™ Rubber are incredibly durable but are light in weight and are specifically designed to prevent pop outs or roll outs. For anyone that has heard that annoying "clanking" from conventional cast iron valve box lids, they know that the sound is simply unpleasant and aggravating. And, if you have to live near a perpetually clanking cast iron valve box lid, you have probably wanted to or have actually called and complained to the city about the noise. While it may be frustrating and time consuming for the city to constantly field noise complaints regarding valve box lids, in addition to the annoyance is the concern that unauthorized access to the valve box could occur or accidents or injury could occur because the cast iron lids are not secure. When the valve box lids pop or roll out, it can cause accidents as cars try to avoid the valve box lids. Additionally, pedestrians may not see that a valve box lid has popped out or is not secured and could trip and fall. Because it is the city's responsibility to maintain the valve box lids, if there is an injury that occurs because of the valve box lids, they will be the ones held liable for the costs. Also, less time will be spent cleaning valve boxes of collecting dirt and debris because they will stay shut with debris caps that can be locked into place. Lockout versions of non-pop lids will ensure that no pop ups are occurring as well as no unauthorized access. By reducing all of these things, city employees will not have to spend as much time servicing the valve boxes which will, in turn, reduce city expenditures. In summary, there are numerous benefits to installing non-pop valve box lids. They will increase safety, reduce noise and, by extension, noise complaints, and help save the city money. Non-pop lids are an inexpensive solution to many problems and are a great choice for any city.
